The Education Fund provides up to $500 per Yilka child to help cover essential school costs, like uniforms, stationery, and excursion fees. It’s designed to support families and help Yilka children feel confident, prepared, and included at school.
Available from 1 January to 30 June each year, this benefit is open to all eligible children on the Yilka register. Funds can be loaded to a VASCO card or paid directly to suppliers. It is not income tested.
Purpose
The purpose of the Education Fund is to support active participation in education by providing school essentials for Yilka children so that they feel included and have a positive experience gaining an education.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this benefit, the child must be:
- listed on the Children’s Register;
- in kindergarten, primary and secondary education; and
- provide current proof of enrolment with name, school and year level (e.g. letter from school, book or uniform list, school photo etc)
- Beneficiary to retain receipt for 60 days to evidence purchase;
- Executive Office to run fortnight checks on use;
Benefit
$500 contribution towards education costs of a Yilka child, by 30 June each year.
Conditions
Funds can by uploaded to VASCO or paid directly to supplier. It is open to all and is not related to income and cannot be used for excluded items (see below table)

- School stationery items and essentials

- Costs of school-related and extra-curricular activities
What can't funds be used for?
- Items funded by Abstudy or mining companies
- Sports uniforms not related to school
- Elite sports or tutoring
- School lunches
- Fuel
